Sharing the Love with One Lovely Blog Award

Forrest and I were recently honored with the One Lovely Blog Award by esteemed writer, blogger, and WANA Tribe member Janice Heck. If you’ve never visited her blog, My Turn, you’re missing out on some delightful, entertaining, and inspiring posts.

I’m linking back to her One Lovely Blog Award post because it includes 7 interesting facts about her that make for a lovely introduction to her blog. Thank you, Janice, for thinking of Forrest and I, and bestowing us this award.

After receiving this gracious nomination, we googled it in an attempt to discover more about its origin and meaning. It’s long, prestigious history is well hidden on the internet.

Despite its secretive nature, we found numerous badges for the award and Forrest was immediately smitten with the image of the butterfly tree. He asked that the color be changed from bright pink to his favorite eco-friendly green. Who am I to say no to a clearly smitten frog?

The rules for accepting the award were more easily located than its origin and history. They are:

  • Thank the person who nominated you and link back to them in your post:

Thanks again, Janice. Forrest was tickled green when he learned who nominated us!

  • Share seven little known facts about yourself:

Since most facts about me are little known, this should be a hop in the park. So my 7 little known facts of randomness are:

Photo by Jonathan Choe / Flickr

1) On a childhood trip to Georgia, I filled our empty hotel bathtub with tiny frogs from the parking lot. I told my mom I wanted to fall asleep to the sound of their singing and would release them in the morning. That was the night the word NOW took on entirely new meaning.

2) I became a vegetarian in November 2010. Since then, I’ve lost 42 pounds and resolved a host of chronic health issues. Morningstar Farms soy-based meat substitutes are personal favorites more appetizing than the real thing. Boca burger, anyone?

3) My favorite flavor (of anything) is key lime: key lime pie, key lime cake, key lime flavored water, key lime yogurt, key lime ice cream … so whatever it is, make mine key lime!

4) Several times in the last six months, my battery drained GPS has mysteriously powered on and announced, “In 100 yards, you have reached your destination.” I find this seriously creepy and am wondering if I should trade in mayhem for old fashioned maps.

5) My phobias are spiders, snakes, and commercial air travel. See, I can’t even bring myself to post a photo of the first two.

6) Please don’t recommend movies or documentaries without advance warning if animals die in the end. Give me spoilers so I know to have plenty of tissues on hand. I’m a real softie like that.

7) One of my Bucket List items is a trip to Key West, FL to drive Seven Mile Bridge, visit Hemingway House, and watch the stunning sunsets. Of course there would have to be time for sea kayaking and maybe a tandem skydive over the ocean … preferably at sunset!

  • Nominate up to 15 bloggers you follow and admire:

Choosing blogger nominees is by far the most difficult task, not only because there are so many worthy blogs and bloggers, but because it’s also difficult to know who’s received a particular award. After much deliberation, our nominees are:

Ellen Gregory at To Beyond and Back

Sara Walpert Foster at Nobody Expects the Spanish Inquisition

Sherri Martin-Hutchins at Live Wonderstruck

Alina Sayre at Illuminations

DB Smyth at Broken Pieces and Beautiful Things

SM Nonnemacher at Barefoot Bliss

SJ Driscoll at Come Sit By My Fire

Ben DeVries at Not One Sparrow

Judythe Morgan at Voices and Views from the Front Porch

Helen McMullin at Foofaraws by Helen: The Ties That Bind

Jennifer Oliver at World Beneath the Evening Star

Barbara Forte Abate at Scribbling Outside the Lines

Mike Schulenberg at Realms of Perilous Wonder

Linda Adams at Soldier, Storyteller

Sherry Isaac at Psychological Sizzle

If Forrest and I have nominated someone who’s already received this award, well … we just wanted you to know we think your blog is lovely too!

  1. Thanks, Elaine!! My daughter loves the Morning Star products. She started eating them when she was in high school and it stuck. I’m thinking now, I probably should have followed her lead! lol!
And I’m scared of spiders too! Icky things, they are. I’m opposed to something having that many legs and eyes – its just creepy! :)

    • I wish I’d discovered them sooner as the major dietary change did wonders for my health … and the big hairy wolf spiders that chase you are the stuff nightmares are made of!

  2. Okay, Elaine, trying to wrap my head around this one: You are afraid of air travel (I am not but can empathize), but your bucket has room for a skydive over the ocean.

Did I read that right, or has your GPS infected your keyboard?

Thank you for the nomination. I shall endeavour to do the honour justice.

    • Yep, you nailed it. The only good planes are the ones you can jump out of. Due to altitude and cabin pressurization issues, commercial aircraft don’t make my list of good planes. There MUST be an open door for ready exit, at altitude or anywhere in between. It’s that claustrophobic condition combined with height, both of which instantly disappear when you jump out the door. You go from no control to total control … not that I have control issues or anything. ;)

  3. Thanks very much for thinking of me, Elaine. Morningstar Farms products do rock…I need to devour more of them myself :)

  4. I discovered Morningstar Farms goodies on one of my “part-time vegetarian” sprints through the market and love them, too. And jeezaloo, but nothing renders me into a quivery-mass like spiders. Even general creepy crawlies like earwigs, thousand-leggers, snakes, and freekishly odd beetles, don’t melt my bones like spiders.

Oh yes, yes! Key West is one of my favorite places in the world! I think it has something to do with the absolute charm of chickens strutting around the streets, stores, and restaurants (absolutely positively, don’t miss going to “Bo’s Fish House.” Nothing quite compares for oddly unique charm. Plus, all the chickens roaming about on the floor and jumping on the tables should any patron be foolish enough to leave their meal unattended while they go to the restroom, are surely eating any spiders that might otherwise show-up.) Oh, yeah, and the bag of dirt I BOUGHT from the cool gift shop at Hemingway’s house is one of the most memorable writing gifts I’ve ever given myself.

Mostly, I love that Forrest was already a blip on your radar at such an early frog collecting age :-D

Great fun having a look into your inner tick-tocking, Elaine. And sincere and humble appreciation of this most prestigious and coveted award :-) :-) :-)

    • You’re most welcome! Thanks for the info on Bo’s Fish House – I’ll tell them you sent me! The chickens DO sound charming; something else to love about the place. And I really want to hear more about this magical bag of dirt you bought at Hemingway House? I’m totally intrigued and thinking Forrest might just love that! ;)

  5. So glad I’m not vegetarian – I never could understand the attraction of fake meat… I’m gonna let you keep your Morningstar Farms products!! Blurgh. :-)

Also, wondering what the difference is between a key lime and a lime? I love lime-flavoured things – especially lime tart. Wonder if that’s like key lime pie or completely different?

Thanks so much for the nomination, Elaine. More pretties for the sidebar in the blog :-)

    • Crikey mate, you should really try some fake meat; it goes great with a big blooming onion! ;)

Key lime is just a specific type of lime that has a sweet, tangy, unique taste. If you like lime, my guess is you’ll LOVE it!

  6. Thank you so much for thinking of me! I have been neglecting my blog a bit lately; maybe this will give me the motivation to actually post again! :-)

  7. Thank you, Elaine! I appreciate the nomination. Congratulations on yours as well! I enjoy your blog.

  8. I’ve seen most of the blogs you awarded and: nice choices! Congrats on yours! I AM very curious about thhe other phobias….

    • Thanks, Liz. The other phobias I couldn’t bring myself to post photos of are spiders & snakes. Just seeing pics of them gives me the creepy crawlies.
